Our nation is in a perilous situation. Reckless spending and an overabundance of regulation on businesses have sent our economy into a crippling slump. The marginalization and suppression of our constitutional right to freedom of religion is not considered a violation. Our education system is failing us and minimizing our ability to remain relevant and competitive in global markets.
Unlike many Democrats, I do not believe the way to fix an ungodly deficit in our nation's budget is more deficit spending. Families in this district and all across this great nation are being forced to tighten their belts and cut back on discretionary spending. The government should do the same. We cannot afford the "us versus them" gridlock. We need men and women who are willing to put aside partisan politics and work out the solutions that will put us back on the path to prosperity.
In the name of "political correctness," our religious freedoms are being snatched up right and left. People who quote the Bible are labeled as zealots, and saying "Merry Christmas" is deemed insensitive. Churches are one of the only charitable organizations that have their freedom of speech limited in order to maintain their tax-exempt status. Lewdness and profanity litter every form of media, yet manger scenes are considered offensive. In our age of free expression, why is it frowned upon to believe in a higher power?
The education of our children and college students should be a top priority. As a conservative who believes in small government, I believe states and local governments are much better suited to attend to this pressing need than a crowd of federal bureaucrats.
It is time to stop playing political games. We must get serious about the issues threatening the stability of our nation.
